THE ROUTE OF IFITOS 2020

2 km route for children in Ilida

Start: Ilida Square
Finish: Old Museum (wooden theatre)

Participants:
Group 1: 5th and 6th Grade Primary School children
Group 2: Junior High School students (grades completed during the same school year)

The event was held for the first time on Saturday, August 29, at 6:00 p.m. in Ancient Ilida.
It is dedicated to the King of Ilida, Ifitos, one of the pioneers of the Truce.
Children from the 5th and 6th grades of Primary School as well as Junior High School students took part.

The young runners started from Ilida Square and finished at the wooden theatre of Ancient Ilida,
in a route of 2 kilometres.

All children were awarded for this particularly demanding effort—also due to weather conditions—with
clay medals designed by sculptor Giorgos Roussis.
Special distinctions were awarded to the first finishers:

Primary School: Vasilis Nikolopoulos, Anthi Angelatou
Junior High School: Charalampos Chronopoulos, Marina Kotsifa

The event concluded with a concert by the music band PASSEPARTOUT.

At the entrance of the Theatre of Ilida, a children’s painting exhibition was held, themed around the Truce and
“Fair Play”.

The event was included in the official #BEACTIVE programme
(implemented by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, General Secretariat of Sports).

Scouts from Pyrgos were present along the entire route, as were the Samaritans,
not only as guides but also to supervise and care for the young runners.

The activity was part of the Route of Olympic Truce 2020, which overall:

It was organised by the Federation of Olympia, with co-organisers the Regions of Attica and Western Greece,
the Municipalities of Ilida, Pyrgos and Ancient Olympia, with the International Olympic Truce Centre
as a Supporting Partner Organisation, and Institutional Supporting Bodies including the Municipality of Athens
and the Municipality of Sparta.
The event was held under the auspices of the Ministries of National Defence, Culture & Sports, Interior and Tourism,
the International Military Sports Council (CISM), the Hellenic Olympic Committee,
the International Olympic Academy, the Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO),
the Hellenic Olympic Academy, and the Hellenic Olympians Association.
Technical Support was provided by the Supreme Council for Sports of the Armed Forces (ASAED)
and the War Museum of Athens.
