THE ROUTE OF IFITOS 2023
In the afternoon of Saturday, shortly before the Opening Ceremony of the Route of Truce, the Route of Ifitos 2023 took place, starting from the Truce Square of the village of Ancient Ilida and finishing at the (wooden) theatre within the Archaeological Site of Ilida.
The route was addressed to children from the final grades of Primary School and Junior High School.
The route is dedicated to Ifitos, King of Ancient Ilida and one of the pioneers of the Olympic Truce.
In the Primary School category, the winners were Nefeli Marathia and Panagiotis Dimitrakopoulos.
In the Junior High School category, the winners were Eleftheria Papanikolaou and Apostolos De Marinis.
The Route of Ifitos was held as part of the #BEACTIVE actions.
Sympoliteia Olympia would like to warmly thank the Parents’ and Guardians’ Association of Avgeio Primary School for its contribution to the successful organisation of the Route of Ifitos.
The events are organised by Sympoliteia Olympia and co-organised with the Region of Western Greece, the Municipalities of Ilida, Pyrgos and Ancient Olympia, and the Supreme Council of Sports of the Armed Forces.
The collaborating support organisation is the International Olympic Truce Centre, with the support of the Region of Attica and #BEACTIVE, and technical support from the Hellenic War Museum.
The events are held under the auspices of the Ministries of National Defence, Culture and Sports – General Secretariat of Sports, Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, Rural Development and Food, and Tourism, as well as the International Military Sports Council (CISM), the Hellenic Olympic Committee, the International Olympic Academy, the Greek National Tourism Organisation, the National Olympic Academy, the Association of Olympic Participants, and the Hellenic Olympians Association.
The organisation warmly thanks its volunteers and the countless volunteers from all the villages along the Route of Truce, who offered local delicacies, the Hellenic Red Cross Samaritan, Rescuer and Lifeguard Corps – Regional Department of Amaliada, Dr Panagiotis Bourlidis and the volunteer doctors who supported him, the EKAB ambulance crew, and the Hellenic Police, whose officers were tirelessly present alongside the runners throughout all our activities.
