CULTURE 2014

A conference entitled “Ilida – Olympia: The Route of Truce, a driver of culture and development”
was organized by the Sympoliteia of Olympia and the
Group for Culture and Development of the Polis of Ilida–Olympia on
Saturday, November 22, at the Lazareio Building in Amaliada
(Town Hall), at 5:30 p.m..

This initiative aimed to highlight and revive the path connecting Ancient Ilida
with Ancient Olympia.

Through the Route of Truce, a comprehensive development proposal is promoted
for the entire area through which the route passes, placing emphasis on social development,
culture, ecotourism, as well as the protection and promotion of the natural environment.

Speakers at the event included Ms. Katerina Kamilaki
(Director of the Centre for Research on Greek Folklore of the
Academy of Athens) on the topic
“Folk culture and development”;
Mr. Nikos Agriantonis (Architect, former President of the Greek National
Committee of ICOMOS) on the topic
“The Ilida–Olympia route and its challenges”;
Spiros Andriopoulos (Navy Lieutenant Commander, Director of the
Supreme Council for Sports of the Armed Forces – ASAED, marathon runner,
holder of the Greek national record) on the topic
“Walking the Route of Truce”; and
Nikos Kelaiidis (Board Member of HATTA) on the topic
“Ecotourism development along the Route of Truce”.

The discussion was moderated by journalist Chrysa Roumelioti.
